Implementing and Sustaining Organizational Lean Process Improvement

Eventbrite - CLN Quarterly Kaizen at CDOT (July 2018)

So you’ve started your Lean transformation – integrating Lean tools, events and methodologies. But change is hard. How do you sustain the transformation and continue to grow and improve after the hype of your initial implementation wears off? Find out at this CLN Quarterly Kaizen Event hosted by the Colorado Department of Transportation.

At this interactive event, you will:

  • Uncover your barrier point to change using a foundational change management model
  • Learn tools you can use to help sustain Lean for the long haul
  • Make key connections with other Colorado Lean practitioners

PLUS. . . .

You will attend two breakout sessions (select two of three):

Breakout #1: Implementing and Sustaining Lean: Statewide Perspectives from the Governor’s Office

Lieutenant Governor Donna Lynne, State of Colorado

The Hickenlooper Administration started a Lean effort in 2011  – prioritizing funding, training, and recognition for process improvement in State government. Where have the efforts led and what opportunities has this investment created for the future? Hear all about the past impact and future opportunity directly from our Director of State Operations.

Breakout #2: Beyond Lean Manufacturing: Lean Applied to Procurement

Tobin Follenweider, Colorado Department of Natural Resources

We all know about examples of Lean in industries like Manufacturing and Healthcare. But what does it look like in the office and support side of an organization? The Colorado Department of Natural Resources (DNR) processes over 700 contracts and contract amendments through its central procurement office each year. They looked at the process and found that the average lead time was more than three weeks with a defect rate over 60%. Find out how DNR applied Lean to improve the process over the last year – and the outcomes.

Breakout #3: Lean After Dark: What Happens when the ‘Fizz’ Dies Down?

Kirsty Dykes, OpX Program Lead, Colorado Department of Labor and Employment

After the consultants have left, all the warm and fuzzy feelings have gone down, and your new project is now just business as usual . . . how do you keep the Lean light alive? How do you continually strive for improvement – inside and outside of your projects? What makes a good project sustainable, anyways? Hear about a handful of useful yet rarely used tools and techniques that help ensure the great changes you make stick for the long run.
